Dipabhāvan Meditation Center - Koh Samui - Thailand

Travel information

​Most visitors reach Koh Samui either by boat from Surat Thani / Don Sak pier, from Chumpon or neighboring islands or by plane. Depending on the ferry operator you will either arrive at Samui's main city Nathon (by Seatran ferry or Songserm speed boat) or at the Lomprayah pier at Na Pra Lan near Mae Nam Beach. You may arrive at the Raja ferry pier about 6 km south of Nathon if you have chosen this operator to ferry across your own vehicle.
As the meditation center, located in the hills of Samui island, is difficult to reach, your first destination and meeting point is the “Dipabhāvan Foundation” (GPS: 9°27'15.8"N 100°01'52.9"E) near the “Sila Ngu Temple” (km post 17 on the ring road), about 1 km north of the small Muslim fishing village of Hua Thanon on the south-east coast of Koh Samui. Opposite Sila Ngu Temple is a small road named “Soi Dipabhāvan” which you have to follow for about 300 meters to reach the Dipabhāvan Foundation building. From the foundation we will take you free of charge to the Dipabhāvan meditation center.

​1. Arriving at Nathon (e.g. by Seatran ferry or Songserm speedboat)
  • Look for a red minibus (a modified pickup truck being used as a bus) or a (white) van waiting for the passengers at the parking next to the ferry. Expensive Taxis are available as well.
  • Get on a red minibus that is going straight to the south – direction “Lamai”. Sila Ngu Temple near Hua Thanon, located on the south-east of Samui Island, is your destination. The fare is about 60 Baht per person but the drivers will ask tourists for 100 Baht. Ask the driver for making sure that you won’t go to the north. If so, it takes very long time and long distance to reach Sila Ngu Temple and the fare is more expensive. The minibuses run on the ring road around Koh Samui, so you won't miss the destination, but going straight to the south is much shorter and cheaper.
  • The van operators offer rides to any destination on Samui for 150 Baht, but they may not know the location of the Dipabhāvan Foundation. Again, let them drop you off at Sila Ngu Temple. You can hire a taxi but the fare cost is more expensive than the fare for the red minibus or the vans.
  • It will take about 30-45 minutes on the red minibus to reach Sila Ngu Temple.
  • Opposite Sila Ngu Temple is a small road named “Soi Dipabhāvan” which you have to follow for about 300 meters to reach the Dipabhāvan Foundation building.
  • Our staff will take you up to Dipabhāvan Meditation Center.

2. Arriving at Samui airport
  • After arriving at Samui Airport and getting your luggage, ask the ground staff for the limousine. The counter for the airport limousines is easy to be seen.
  • Your destination is the Dipabhāvan Foundation. As many drivers do not know the new location of the foundation, ask to be dropped at Sila Ngu Temple on the ring road. The fare to Sila Ngu Temple shouldn’t be more than 500 Baht/ person.
  • Opposite Sila Ngu Temple is a small road named “Soi Dipabhāvan” which you have to follow for about 300 meters to reach the Dipabhāvan Foundation building.
  • Our staff will take you up to Dipabhāvan Meditation Center.

3. Arriving at the Lomprayah pier near Mae Nam
  • Find a red minibus or a (white) van or a Taxi heading to the south-east, direction Chaweng and Lamai. Your destination is the “Dipabhāvan Foundation”. As many drivers do not know the new location of the foundation, ask to be dropped at “Sila Ngu Temple” on the ring road.
  • Opposite Sila Ngu Temple is a small road named “Soi Dipabhāvan” which you have to follow for about 300 meters to reach the Dipabhāvan Foundation building.
  • Our staff will take you up to Dipabhāvan Meditation Center.
